As more people start to use the coblog and get into it, more moderation is going to be required. So, this is just a reminder to everyone to remember to label all of your posts and specifically to remember to label them with at least one of the menu tabs at the top of the coblog. This will help immensely to keep all of the content organized. Also keep in mind that the content does not have to be confined to articles and news items. It can be multi-faceted and multi-media. It will be a great thing to start having discussions and posting thoughts on here about whatever people are interested in/thinking about.
isn't it immensely?
Hi Kevin,I've come across two things that might improve the co-blog, but I have no idea if they are possible. First, it would be nice to be able to edit our own comments. Of course, I probably wouldn't need to if I took the time to read through them more thoroughly (but overzealousness often gets the best of me :). And two, adding hyperlinks to the comments section would allow a format closer to what Dr. Wesch describes in the YouTube video on Web 2.0. Anyway, just some suggestions that I've come up with after playing with it a bit more.Oh, and of course the tunes...gotta have some tunes in a Jukebox :)... Thanks man!!
When I get a chance I will work on the Jukebox! As far as the comments go, you can go in and delete your own comments. I think in part the reason editing is not built in is because the comments section reads like a story. This means that if you change one comment, the comments after it might not make sense anymore. For this reason I see why it is set up the way it is. However, I think the structure of the commenting is a bit weird (and have always felt that way with blogs). So I am constantly trying to think of a better solution for how to have online "discussion".Lastly, the hyperlinking in the comments section? I think I am going to need some explanation because on the face of it I do not seem to understand...
no hurry on the jukebox! i know you have worked hard and have limited time... i just thought i'd include it while commenting on the other two items :). that makes sense regarding the reason you can't edit comments. i just need to take my time and reread before posting. as for hyperlinking... i just meant that say i was commenting on a post, and i had a link that i wanted to include in the comment. it would be nice to have links like those provided in the post section... where you could relate a word... say "GIS" to the wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geographic_information_systemw/o having to include the email address... no big deal, but it would improve functionality. or say link a person to their email... anyway...just a wish list :), but thanks so much for all of your hard and patient work on this :)... it's great...
You can do that. You just have to know the html, which is easy see!To hyperlink you need to put: a href= "(your site)" (text) /aWhere there needs to be brackets <>, open bracket before the first "a", close bracket after the (your site) quotation mark, open bracket before "/", and closed bracket after the second "a".(your site) is the hyperlink (http://www.etc...)(text) is what you want to be hyperlinkedAs easy as that. You could also just copy and paste this line of code from a post by going to the edit html tab, and then change the link and linked.
oh cool, i hadn't thought about that. i didn't know the html would publish in the comments section... thanks for the heads-up...
